1. Tinubu Orders Immediate Release of Detained Minors

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation to ensure the immediate release of the minors detained by the Nigeria Police over alleged involvement in last August’s protests.

This directive which was given on Monday, came days after the 76 people which includes 30 minors, were charged with treason and inciting a military coup after they were seen waving Russian flags during the #EndBadGovernance protests against economic hardship. Read more 

2. Nigerian Govt Orders Julius Berger to Leave Abuja-Kano Road Project

The Federal Ministry of Works has ordered Julius Berger, the contractor handling rehabilitation of Section One of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway to leave the project.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, on Monday in Abuja.

Ahmed said the decision was reached during a management meeting of the ministry at its headquarters, adding that the termination was based on non-compliance with the reviewed cost, scope, and terms, stoppage of work, and refusal to remobilise to the site.

3. Imported Petrol Cheaper than the N990/litre Price of Dangote Petrol – PETROAN

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) said that the imported petrol was cheaper than the N990/litre price of Dangote petrol, adding that Dangote Petroleum Refinery is inconsiderate for selling petrol at N990/litre.

Major marketers had recently revealed that the landing cost of imported petrol as of October 31, 2024, was N978/litre.

4. Osimhen only African player to make top 50 marketable athletes

Victor Osimhen emerges the only African player to make Sports Pro’s Top 50 Most Marketable Athletes list for 2024 after being ranked 44th ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

The list which was compiled by the US website used three metrics to determine the rankings — brand strength, total addressable market, and economics, with Osimhen scoring higher than the Norwegian striker, who sits in 45th position.

Anthony Joshua has made it to the top three highest-earning boxers in 2024.

6. Hushpuppi may never get the second chance I did – Cyber Expert

Brett Johnson, a former US cybercriminal and now a cybersecurity consultant, has said the likelihood of an easy release for Nigerian social media influencer, Ramon Abbas, known as Hushpuppi was quite small.

Johnson, who was once on the FBI’s most-wanted list and currently a cybersecurity consultant for companies such as Microsoft, had said at the just concluded GITEX Global event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates that, although he received a second chance after his criminal career, Abbas may struggle to find similar opportunities due to systemic inequalities.

7. Govt Finally Removes Varsities, other Tertiary Institutions from IPPIS

The Nigerian government has finally removed universities and other state-owned tertiary institutions from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

This was disclosed by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, OAGF.

8. Falana Seeks Compensation for Detained Minors

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has indicated an intention to seek compensation for minors who were detained over the #EndBadGovernance protest.

Falana, who is also counsel to the suspected protesters spoke shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the release of the minors yesterday.

9. NSCDC Arrests 1, Discovers 10 hectares of Cannabis Plantation in Ekiti

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command, has arrested a suspect identified as Akpan Ndatai (25) with over 500kg of cannabis sativa.

While parading the suspect at the command, the commandant, Dr Paul Sosina, said that efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He also said that the plantation is between Ikere, Ilawe and spreads to another neighbouring town in a ten-hectare plantation farm.

10. Residents Commend Seadogs’ free Provision of Healthcare

Residents of Egini in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State have commended the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) for its provision of free medical care to over 500 locals during its weekend outreach, known as the NAS Medical Mission.

The medical outreach which was held at the Egini Primary Healthcare Centre, offered diagnosis, treatment, and essential medications to residents, with referrals to Warri Central Hospital for severe cases and served as part of the association’s quarterly outreach, also serving as a prelude to the association’s 2024/25 first Quarter Pyrates Working Committee meeting in Effurun, Uvwie LGA.

11. Enugu Gov Mbah Flags off Construction of 300-bed Hospital

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has flagged off the construction of a 300-bed Enugu International Hospital .

Speaking at the flag-off event on Monday, the Governor said the hospital would make the state the hub of medical tourism in West Africa and that Enugu was targeting a substantial share of the overseas medical tourism market estimated to be over $1 billion annually.

12. Court Stops NAA Members from Parading as Excos

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has given an interim order stopping members of the Nigerian Auctioneers Association (NAA) from parading as executives.

It further ordered the members to desist from “masquerading and parading themselves as Caretaker/Electoral/Constitution Review Committees of the 15 Defendant – Nigeria Association of Auctioneers or carrying out any further or other functions in that capacity pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

13. Police Neutralise 6 kidnappers in Bauchi

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have neutralised six suspected kidnappers in some villages and in the Burra Mountain area of Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad.

While parading the suspects, he said that operatives of the area command engaged suspected kidnappers in the villages of Balma, Dogon Ruwa, Lumbu, and the Burra Mountain area, all situated within Ningi LGA.

14. Nigeria Govt Begins Repairs of Federal roads ahead of Yuletide season

The Nigerian government, through the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), says said it has begun repairs of Federal roads nationwide to ease the flow of traffic ahead of the Yuletide season.

FERMA Managing Director, Chukwuemeka Agbasi, while flagging off phase 2 of the operation connect to your destination in Kano State, had said that about 18,850 metres square would be patched, 12,000 areas of failed section would be recovered, while 2,700 meters square of overlay would be done and 653 kilometres of the road would be made motorable.

15. Another Terror Group Emerges in Sokoto

Sokoto State Government has raised alarm over the emergence of another terrorist group in the state, identified as LAKURAWAS.

This was made known by the State Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, while receiving participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who were on a study tour in the state.

16. Tinubu Nominates New REC Representing Ondo State

President Bola Tinubu has nominated a lawyer, Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), to represent Ondo State.

This was made known via a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Monday night.

17. Economy Improving, gradually coming out of challenges – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said  the debt servicing to revenue ratio has further dropped to 65 per cent. This is an improvement on the 68 per cent, given by the President in his October 1 Independence Day broadcast to the nation.

He made this known during the inauguration of seven new ministers into the Federal Executive Council (FEC). According to him, the economy is improving.

18. Edun Hails Tinubu as first leader to implement long overdue economic reforms

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the first leader in decades to implement critical economic reforms that were long overdue.

He made this recommendation when he welcomed the Minister of State, Dr. Doris Uzoka Anite, to the ministry. He noted the significance of the President’s twin reforms—introducing a market-based foreign exchange rate and deregulating the pricing of petroleum products, saying that these measures reflect Tinubu’s exceptional courage, boldness, and political acumen.

19. Nigeria Records 16.7% Reduction in child mortality

Nigeria has recorded 16.7% reduction in child mortality, achieving 31 of 41 key health performance indicators by the third quarter of this year.

This was announced by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, when he appeared on a national television programme.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the United Kingdom (UK) to address the security and humanitarian challenges facing African countries.

Speaking yesterday when he hosted the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy, at the State House in Abuja, he emphasised on the need for the UK to engage more actively in Africa’s peace and stability efforts.
