1. Senate Approves 15% States Funding for Zonal Development Commission
The Senate has approved 15 per cent as a source of funding for the newly created zonal development commissions by member states on Thursday from the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

2. Three Die in Helicopter Crash in Rivers
The The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has confirmed a helicopter crash which occurred at approximately 11:22 am on Thursday along the waterways near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean involving a Sikorsky SK76 operated by East Wind Aviation.
In a statement via his X account, he expressed his concerns over the incident and extended his condolences to the family of the victims. According to him, the helicopter was en route from Port Harcourt Military Base to the NUIMANTAN oil rig, had eight people on board and so far, three bodies have been recovered
3. Reps, CBN Disagree over Deadline for Validity of old Naira
The House of Representatives and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had disagreed yesterday the deadline for the validity of old naira notes.
While the House of Reps asked CBN to issue out more new N200, N500 and N1000 notes while gradually withdrawing the old naira notes from circulation before the deadline of December 31, 2024, the CBN said there was no such deadline.
4. Naira Depreciates to N1,739/$ in Parallel Market
The Naira depreciated to N1,739 per dollar yesterday in the parallel market from N1,735 per dollar on Wednesday.
However, according to data from FMDQ, Naira appreciated to N1,601.2 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM) from N1,654.09 per dollar on Wednesday, indicating N52.89 appreciation for the naira.
5. President Tinubu Cuts Ministers Convoy
President Bola Tinubu has cut the official convoys of ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies of the Federal Government to a maximum of three vehicles, adding that no additional vehicles would be assigned to them for movement.
This was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy statement, Bayo Onanuga.
6. Reps Vows to Support Polytechnics
The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education has vowed to support polytechnics in order to provide solutions to the challenges being faced by these institutions of learning.
These challenges were identified by the committee during its oversight functions on Federal Polytechnics in the South West geopolitical zone of the country.
7. Shettima’s Trip Cancelled as Foreign Object Hits his Plane
Vice President Kashim Shettima’s trip to Samoa to represent Nigeria at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads Of Government Summit has been cancelled after his plane was hit by a foreign object during a stopover at JFK Airport in New York.
According to a statement released last night by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said “The foreign object damaged the cockpit windscreen of the plane.”
8. Tinubu Performs Groundbreaking of Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway Project
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday performed the groundbreaking of the 1,068 kilometres Sokoto-Badagry superhighway project.
According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria, the ceremony was held at the project site in Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The Catholic Church in Nigeria has strongly opposed the alleged plan by the Federal Government to legalise abortion.
This comes amid reports that the Health Promotion Department of the Federal Ministry of Health is reviewing sections of the Criminal Code to decriminalize abortion in a bid to expanding access to safe termination of pregnancies and reducing maternal deaths.
11. NGF Reaffirms Commitment to Establishing Ranches for Herders
The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing ranches for livestock herders.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the NGF and Kwara Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressed the Forum’s position on Thursday while speaking at the stakeholders consultative workshop on livestock reforms in Nigeria at the State House, Abuja.
12. IGP Orders Investigation into Murder in Edo
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has condemned the recent violence in Amagba Community, Edo State, which resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Israel Ogbeide whose body was found on October 19, 2024, at 2:00 pm, bearing a fatal gunshot wound.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reads: “In response to this grievous occurrence, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has directed a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.”

The trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite had discharged Gambayran on health grounds, corroborated by the EFCC.
18. FG Calls for Local Solutions to curb Climate Change Effects on Health
The Federal Government had called for local solutions and better partnerships to help curb the growing impacts of climate change on health in the country.
