Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has been caught in the web after he dug up an old edition of his now dead and buried The News magazine as he chided former President Olusegun Obasanjo for complaining about the Economy under President Bola Tinubu.
Onanuga who has been dubbed by some Nigerians as a specialist in opening old wounds chose the 2004 edition of the said magazine which said “MORE NIGERIANS COMMIT SUICIDE AS OBJ’S POLICY TAKES ITS TOLL” in a determined effort to remind Obasanjo of his era and stopping short of telling the elder statesman that he has no right to express his opinion over the current economy that has been dubbed T-Pain.

Olorogun~E@OlorogunErnest said “Egbon Onanuga with all due respect, I was old enough to witness OBJ’s era and I can say the hardship wasn’t even close to what Nigerians are going through today. You might not really understand because you’re benefitting from Tinubu’s administration but the hardship is record breaking”
Kịṅgsley Egeonu @AkaEgeonu encouraged Onanuga to dig deeper in his past history chasing project. Attaching a recent video where Nigerians were being flogged while queuing for bread the X user told Onanuga to “Show us one video under OBJ where a state went through this, even the poorest state fed well. Now welcome to 2024, where people queue to take bread home and get flogged mercilessly by the military if they miss a step, still, one supposed elder is comparing 2024 to 2004, 20 whole years ago🤦. Indeed shame is a luxury to some of you.”
Nafiu Muhammed™ @nafiumohammed in his reaction has this to say “This is wrong sir, it looks like you are mocking Nigerians because the number of Suicides now supersede that of obasanjo 10x. Even me don contemplate committing suicide many times because PBAT’s economic policies and my problems are smaller than millions”.
Idris Abdul Ahmed @Nrs_Idreeserh asked “What kind of comparison is this? Are you telling us we should thank your pay Master for what we are facing? We should thank him for not killing us?”

OGKuku #NoGreeForAnybody @ogkuku2 said: “It’s no rocket science that you’ve been a propaganda machine since the onset doubling as a paid agent & canon fodder. Today, you conveniently pulled out one of your bile-filled articles paid for by you-know-who. We know who owned The News and the motive behind the publication”.
Ọmọọba Adélẹyẹ Tolu 🤴 👑@AnomalousPrince will however not accept mere dropping of old publications with no verifiable records to back them up saying advising the Presidential aide “Drop stats uncle… How many committed suicide under OBJ regime is 8 years and how many have committed under your master in 1½year?”
But @realness000 in what looked like a soft landing for the embattled Presidential Aide told Nigerians to also consider effect of global changes including the conflicts in Russia and Israel saying “My concern regarding the perspectives of some Nigerians is that they often overlook the significant impact that global events, such as the ongoing war in Russia and the tensions at the Israel border, have on inflation.
These conflicts can lead to disruptions in supply chains, increased energy prices, and a ripple effect on the global economy. It’s important to recognize that these international issues can greatly influence local economic conditions, yet this connection often seems underappreciated in discussions about inflation in Nigeria”
