Nigeria’s U-17 women team, the Flamingos have settled down and flagged off training in Santa Domingo ahead of this year FIFA U-17 Women World Cup billed for October 16 to November 3 in Dominican Republic.
The Bankole Olowokere tutored side who touched down in Caribbean nation Thursday, are hoping to shape up in all departments of their tactical strategy before the opener on October 16 against New Zealand. The team will afterwards face Ecuador and finally hosts Dominican Republic at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, Santo Domingo.

The Flamingos have been to every edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with the exception of 2018 edition. They have reached the quarterfinals thrice 2010, 2012 and 2014.

The team however finished in the third place at the 2022 edition in India after beating Germany on penalty. The game had ended 3-3 at regulation time forcing penalty shootout which Nigeria won 3-2.
The flamingos will be hoping to put up a good show at the championship. The tournament is coming barely a month after elder sisters to the Flamingos, the Falconets crashed out in the last 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Colombia. The Falconets had crossed the group stage but failed to survive last 16 clash against Japan
Meanwhile, the General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is ongoing today in Asaba, the Delta State Capital.
The NFF AGM is the meeting of football administrators and stakeholders in the country. Presidents and Secretaries of Football Associations of the 36 states of the Federation are expected to be in attendance as well as chairmen and Secretaries of Nigeria Premier Football League, Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women Football League and the Nationwide League One, as well as chairmen and secretaries of the referees’ association, players’ union and coaches’ association.
