The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has denied threatening voters to vote for its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the 21st September election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state accused Governor Godwin Obaseki, of threatening civil servants that their jobs would be at risk if they did not vote for the PDP in Saturday’s poll.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, 18th September, Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser on Media to the Edo State Governor, said the state government never made any statement threatening civil servants.

Osagie described as “mischievous” and “baseless”, a statement credited to Kassim Afegbua, the Media Consultant to the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, claiming that the jobs of civil servants have been threatened.

“We want to unequivocally state that there is no such thing and the government never made any statements whatsoever threatening civil servants,” Osagie stated, adding that the statement “is not only false but a figment of the jaundiced imagination of Kassim Afegbua.”

He claimed that civil servants in Edo State are happy and wise and would make the right choice during the election.

“The civil servants in Edo State are Nigeria’s happiest workers. They are liberated and well-empowered and have no reason to vote for Kassim Afegbua’s sinking party, the APC, whose government at the centre has not only superintended the liquidation of the Nigerian State but has inflicted untold hardship and suffering on the people.”

He went on to highlight the performance of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government in the last eight years, particularly in the civil service, adding that civil servants in the state are being paid the highest minimum wage in the country and also improved working environment, such as the introduction of health insurance for all Edo workers, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, migration to Contributory Pension Scheme, training, and retraining for the workers. “No civil servant in Edo State needs to be coerced to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Osagie added.
