In a post on X.com on Thursday, Guinness World Records quoted a BBC Sports tweet that hailed Ronaldo’s record-breaking accomplishment, saying, “900 career goals for Cristiano Ronaldo. Incredible. #BBCFootbal

The subtle gesture further cemented Ronaldo’s legendary status in the world of football.

Ronaldo’s milestone reinforces his dominance in both international and club football, placing him ahead of his long-time rival Lionel Messi and other prominent players.

Ronaldo reached the record breaking feat scoring a 34th minute goal in Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League tie.

Speaking after the match against Croatia, Cristiano Ronaldo said (via Fabrizio Romano): “900 goals seems like any other milestone, but only I know how hard it is to work every day to score your 900th goal.

“It’s a unique milestone in my career. I don’t break records…they haunt me!”

Interestingly, Ronaldo’s arch rival, Lionel Messi is the only player closely trailing with 838 goals and need 62 goals to reach the 900 goals mark.
There are strong indications that Ronaldo, may increase the tally as Portugal take on Scotland in the UEFA Nations League 2024 on September 8.

Ronaldo may not be far from the truth in his submission that records practically haunt him. Recall that the 39-year-old Al-Nassr forward only recently launched his youtube channel called “UR” that practically blew the Internet registering 30 million subscribers in two days.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is also the all-time top scorer in European club competitions.

Top Five All Time Goal Scorers:
