HEAD coach of the Cape Verdean national team, Pedro ‘Bubista’ Leitao is adamant that Nigeria’s Super Eagles will not qualify for the 2022 World Cup despite his team losing the play off spot to Nigeria.

The Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Cape Verde on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos to finish top and seal a spot in the play off but Bubista whose team finished in the second place behind the Nigerian team believes his team were better over the two legged fixtures.

“Over both legs we were better than a team loaded with talented players. It’s unfair what we got from both games.

“The world has seen the Nigerian team and I am still standing by my personal opinion that they won’t make it to the World Cup in Qatar. Massive improvement is needed all round in the team,” ‘Bubista’ stressed.

The Super Eagles are one of five African countries including Algeria, Senegal, Morocco and Tunisia that have been seeded for the playoffs draws on 18 December 2021 but the three African champions may lose their ‘top 5’ place to Egypt who are sixth.

The Pharoahs won their last two games of the group qaulifiers while Nigeria won one and drew last Tuesday’s game.

The playoffs will be played at the end of March 2022.
