Victor EzejaThe Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, has decried the abduction of 20 medical students in Benue State and Anambra State Commissioner Youth Development and his wife in Edo State, saying the current level of insecurity in the country is unacceptable.

Join our WhatsApp ChannelIn statement via his X handle on Saturday, Obi drew parallel line between insecurity and poverty in the country and called for decisive action to tackle the challenges, stressing that the citizens can’t continue to live in fear, poverty and darkness.
The students were said to be travelling to Enugu for an annual convention organised by the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) when they were abducted by the hoodlums.
Also, a serving commissioner for Youth Development in the Anambra State government, Patrick Agha Mba, was reportedly abducted alongside his wife in Edo State while on their way to Abuja.
Prime Business Africa gathered that they were on their way to attend the wedding of the daughter of Governor Chukwuma Soludo when they were attacked and abducted. One of his aides was killed during the attack that occurred on Friday, 16th August.

The incidents have created a significant tension over the poor state of security across the country.
Reacting, Obi emphasised the need for a collective action to address economic hardship, poverty and insecurity ravaging the country so that the citizens can have peace.
Obi said: “We cannot continue living in fear, poverty, and darkness. It’s time for bold action, collective resolve, and a united front against these challenges.
“We must declare war on this massive insecurity and other ills that threaten or society and work tirelessly to build a safer, more prosperous, and just society for all.”
