Join our WhatsApp ChannelChinese President XI Jinping Friday assured that diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria will continue to be consolidated.
The Chinese leader made this known in a letter to his Nigerian counterpart, Mohammad Buhari on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Nigeria to promote strategic partnership to new heights.
“Nigeria is an important strategic partner of China in Africa.
China-Nigeria cooperation has been the pacesetter of China-Africa cooperation,’’ enthused Jinping, according to a State House press release signed by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Buhari had extended his goodwill message to the Chinese president in a congratulatory letter to mark the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which came up October 1.
The bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and People’s Republic of China were formally established on February 10, 1971 – a decade after Nigeria gained its independence from the British Empire.
In November 2020, the Chinese government blocked China’s entry to all foreigners, including Nigerians over COVID-19 concerns, except for “essential services” including diplomatic service.
