Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh has attributed Team Nigeria’s flop in Paris to limited time the team had for preparation.

The Minister in a post mortem of the Games said “We did not have enough time to prepare, that’s why we did not win any medal at the 2024 Olympics.”  The statement however sounded like a skit to most Nigerians who have reacted in various ways to the submission.

Damilare Odulesi @DamilareOdulesi said; “They can go back to their preparation na, it’s not too late”

@SuperSlimEli said “Like they didn’t know Olympics was coming? They got the information 3 weeks before the date?”

Bello Oluwatosin @bellick01 “The next Olympic is in four years from now isn’t that enough for the preparation? These people don’t think before they talk now, what a shame to the country’s Sports Federation”

Mυнαмε∂ Wαsση@Muhamedwason added” You had four good years, yet you come back claiming you didn’t have enough time. But you had plenty of funds. We all know that sports won’t thrive until the Ministry of Sport and Education are merged. Only then will sports truly grow in this country.”

Mr Awesome 🏆@mattakhide had this to say,”I’m pretty sure we had same amount of time as every other nation. The Olympics wasn’t a last minute schedule”

Osawa18 @osawaru76 sarcastically sympathised over the situation saying “Eya… Sorry to hear there was insufficient time to PREPARE for a FOUR YEAR Olympic.”

For Glamo@GlamoMajek, questioned the ministers appointment, adding that the solution lies in putting round pegs in round holes “When you appoint someone with no relevant experience as the Sports Minister, how do you expect them to understand the timing and seasons? Who doesn’t know that the Olympics happens every four years?” he submitted.

Nigeria has made appearances in 18 Olympics beginning with the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki where she paraded the lowest number of athletes, 9 but won no medal.

Nigeria Has won 27 Medals In 18 Appearances At The Olympics

The highest number of athletes so far was presented at the just ended Olympics in Paris.

Nigeria has won a total of 27 medals in the 18 appearances at the Olympics made up of 3 gold,11 Silver and 13 Bronze.

The best outing was at the Atlanta 96 where a team of 65 athletes returned with six medals made up of 2 gold 1 Silver and 3 Bronze.

2028 will be the second time Los Angeles will be hosting the Olympics. The first time the city hosted it was in 1984 where Nigeria’ team of 32 athletes won a Silver and a Bronze to rank 30th on the table.
