In what looks like a direct consequence of attack and vandalisation of its office in Festac Town in Lagos, telecom giant, MTN, has shut its offices nationwide. The company made this known via the X handle Tuesday.
Confirming the closure, via a statement on X (formerly Twitter), MTN said: “Yello customer, please be informed that our shops nationwide will be closed today, 30th July 2024.” The move may not unconnected with the attack on one hand and precautionary measure ahead of planned protest against hardship in the country on August 1st.

While the decision to bar lines was said to be targeted at customers who failed to comply with government directive that all SIMs be linked with NIN, many said they had done that and still had their lines barred.
The Nigerian Communication Commission directed on Monday that all barred lines be opened by all telecom companies, and there are some reports that the directive is being complied with.
Some have condemned the attack on the MTN facilities describing it as anger taken too far, while others say proactive measures should have been taken against the development, citing the timing of the disconnection as very wrong.
