The Nigerian side, who had recorded back to back defeats in the shape up matches leading to the Olympics, however rose to the occasion against the Australians dominating proceedings from the start to finish.

The Nigerian ladies who won the first quarter with a slim margin 18-17, won the second quarter 23-11 but lost the third quarter 19-10. On return to the fourth quarter however, the Nigerians retuned to winning ways with 24-15 finish.
The D’Tigress will now look forward to their next game against France on August 1. In other matches played earlier, Serbia beat Puerto Rico 58-55, while Spain narrowly beat China 90-89.
The Rena Wakama led side certainly put up a good show considering that the team headed into the Olympics after back to back defeats in friendly matches against Germany and Serbia.
This is the first time the team will be winning an Olympic match since Athens 2004.
