NPFL side, Kwara United, sometimes called Afonja Warriors, have settled for massive re-organisation ahead of the 2024/2025 premier league season. Kwara United finished in the 13th position last season escaping the relegation zone by just five points.
In what could pass for early morning decision to avoid a repeat of last season migraine, sacked 22 players while recruiting 23 to face the new season.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelIn a media chat with reporters in Ilorin on Monday, the General Manager of Kwara United, Bashir Badawiy, revealed that 23 players have been signed to fortify the team ahead of next season, following the sack of 22 players.
The General Manager said they have signed Abayomi Samuel from 3SC, and Jimi Iteji from Plateau United. They also signed Kazeem Badmus, Adamu Abubakar and Ifeanyi Ogba from NPFL champions, Enugu Rangers.
He said: “Our expectation in the 2024/25 NPFL season is to finish among the top three clubs, we don’t want to struggle again; check our records in the last two seasons, we were among the top four and even qualified for continental.”
Meanwhile, 20 NPFL clubs are expected to meet later today, July 16, at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) to discuss the format for the forthcoming season.
NPFL Clubs Shape Up Ahead August 31 kickoff Of 2024/2025 Season
The clubs have two options to choose from, the abridged or a full-scheduled format. Recall that the league ran on an abridged version in the 2022-2023 season but returned to the full-scheduled form last season.
The 2024-2025 NPFL season kicks off on Saturday, August 31 all things being equal.
