LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers Saturday evening stated that tiredness was the reason for the substitution of Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho in the Foxes’ 4-2 win over Manchester United.

Iheanacho dispossessed Harry Maguire and assisted Youri Tielemans’ goal, a brilliant lob over Watford keeper Ben Forster which restored parity after the 2015/2016 English Premier League champions went down to a Mason Greenwood’s excellent opener.

 

Rodgers who only this week was linked to the Newcastle United managerial role following the takeover by Saudi billionaire owners faced the media in the post-match interview where he mentioned Iheanacho and fellow substituted teammate, James Maddison.

 

 

“He (Maddison) was unlucky with a couple of through balls and then just towards the end him and Kels (Kelechi Iheanacho) was just starting to tire a little bit and we could then bring on the other two guys to influence the game,” Rodgers explained.

 

Iheanacho has only completed one full game this season for the Foxes, against Milwall in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

 

 

Iheanacho who is likely to start in Thursday’s Europa League clash against Victor Moses’ Spartak Moscow after missing the previous game against Legia Warsaw due to passport issue took to to social media to congratulate Zambia international Patson Daka on scoring his Leicester debut goal.

 

The FIFA U-17 World Cup winner on 2013 posted on Instagram: “Great team performance today, thank you for all your support! Congratulations to my brother @patsondaka for his first goal in the Premier League”.
