The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it would resume the Warri-Itakpe Train Service operations on Monday, 8 July (today), after temporary suspension due to derailment.
“The Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC) hereby informs the general public especially our valued passengers that, the train services (WITS) will resume operation on Monday 8 July 2024, after temporary suspension of trains operations along the route as a result of train derailment at Abraka Railway station,” NRC said in a statement released Sunday, signed by its Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood.

Mahmood said all intending travellers on the Warri-Itakpe Train Service route can start booking online beginning Sunday, 7 July 2024.
“NRC Management deeply regrets any inconveniences this derailment and temporary suspension of WITS may have caused our valued passengers,” the NRC spokesperson added.
Prime Business Africa reports that the train was travelling from Itakpe in Kogi to Ujevwu in Delta when the accident occurred at about 7 pm on Thursday.
Consequently, the Railway Corporation on Friday, announced suspension of train operations on the route.
NRC had recorded similar cases in the past. Last year, it suspended operations on the Warri-Itakpe rail service after a train derailed at kilometre 30, Ajaokuta-Itakpe section of the track.
Also, in May, a train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja derailed in Jere.
