The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has thrashed reports that Super Eagles and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been banned from the national team following his widely reported outburst against former coach Finidi George.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi expressed amazement at the reports, saying “the Federation has neither instructed a process nor has a process been concluded to ban the player from the National Team”
The outburst had triggered call for Osimhen’s ban from some quarters including from former international Idah Peterside who viewed it as an act of disrespect for Finidi George whom he described as a legend.
The dust has however started to settle following Finid’s resignation as Super Eagles coach with reason for the resignation weighing more on decision of the NFF to hire a Foreign Technical Director for the team.
With Finidi’s resignation done and dusted, the NFF is now to take decision on a new coach for the team on one hand and whether to still go ahead with the engagement of Foreign Technical Director on the other, since the idea was mooted following Finidi’s poor run in the two World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.
Eagles will resume the second phase of their world cup campaign next year with six matches lined up three away and three at home. The first of the away ties will be against Amavubi of Rwanda on March 17 at the 45,508 capacity Stadium in Kigali.
