Gombe United, Heartland of Owerri and Doma United are bottom placed teams in the 20-team Nigeria Premier Footfall League that are already set for relegation this season after poor run that saw them leading the log from the back.

Rivers United who crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup recently after losing 2-0 to USMA of Algeria, are no contenders in the top four finish. The Garden City landlords are currently 9th on the log with 50 points in 36 matches played.

Rangers international, Remo Stars, Enyimba and Shooting Stars are top contenders and will be on duty on Sunday in what promises to be survival of the fittest.

Aside from Rivers against Gombe united other fixtures lined up today include Kastina United against Doma United, Heartland host Niger Tornadoes, Lobi Stars take on Kwara United while Plateau United lock horns with Kano Pillars at the Jos Stadium.

Fans of the Nigerian league are watching with keen interest to see how the closing phase of the league pans out.

Remo Stars who finished third in 2022 and second in 2023 are hoping to finally lay hands on the title. It remains however to be known whether they can upstage table toppers Rangers with just two points between them going into this weekend’s deciders.

Remo Stars battle Sunshine Stars on Sunday just as Rangers host Bendel Insurance. Should Rangers survive the horse race to win the league, it would be the 8th time the Flying Antelopes will be clinching the league. The Coal City boys last clinched the title in 2016.
