Julius OkorieThe Super Eagles have vowed to fight harder in the remaining qualifiers, with a view to picking a ticket for the next World Cup in 2026.
The team made the promise after returning to the country on Tuesday from Abidjan. The decision, according to the team, was reached after a heart to heart talk among players, after the dismal outing, especially against Benin Republic in Abidjan on Monday.

We have had talks among ourselves and have resolved to fight hard till the end, to ensure we do the impossible, which is qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. We don’t take your support for granted, we thank you immensely #SoarSuperEagles.”
However, only a few fans appear to have accepted what looks like Eagles’ apology, as many accused the players of lacking seriousness. Stand in Captain of the side, Wilfred Ndidi, in fact got a lot of knocks over a statement he made before the matches. The Leicester City defender was quoted as saying that, “We must not win every game because we are Nigeria.” The statement may have had little impact when it was made, but after the match, it triggered off a lot of reactions from fans.

RICHEEY @Richeey001 said “After Captain Ndidi said we must not win every game because we are Nigeria. We’ve seen that the results are matching his statement. A statement no captain in the world can make. Very unserious group of lazy Eagles.”
Biq Shaq 🦈@pascaliito had this to say; “You people I don’t even know what to say. No passion, No desire to play for your country. The World Cup is the biggest stage, if you won’t do it for your country, then do it for yourself.”

Shafi’i Hamidu@shafiihamidu is however not in the mood to castigate the Eagles for the dismal outing so far and expressed optimism that the team will bounce back.

The Eagles have ample chance to remedy the situation when the next round of qualifiers begin next year, with six matches comprising three away matches, and three home games.
