Newly elected President-General of Ojoto, Chief Ernest Obunadike, has emphasised the need for unity among the indigenes and also promised to work with relevant authorities to beef up security in the town.
He spoke at a meeting with members of Ojoto Akanasato Union (OAU), Lagos branch.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelSpeaking on security, Chief Obunadike said he would strengthen the vigilante group in the town and set up an insurance scheme for the welfare of the officers, who according to him, make alot of sacrifices for the safety of the people and properties.
Ojoto is the headquarters of Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State.
He noted that with strong security in all the villages in the town, people would feel safe to visit home, especially during festive seasons and more development would also be attracted.
“I am going to work in synergy with our local vigilante to ensure that we continue to maintain security in Ojoto,” Obunadike stated.
“We are going to raise money locally from the community to boost and encourage our vigilante. We are going to equally introduce insurance scheme for them. We will encourage them to work harder to ensure that our community is well secured.”

Commenting on State policing system being proposed by the government, the Ojoto PG, who is also a lawyer with over three decades of experience in legal practice, noted that it is a novel idea that will boost security in different parts of the country than the current central police structure.
“State police is good in the sense that it is going to enhance the security of lives and properties in every community in a state.”
He, however, expressed worries that the system when implemented, may be subjected to abuse by state governments.
He advised the Federal Government and the National Assembly to be careful in creating law that provides for state police by making sure that certain measures are put in place to prevent any form of abuse of the system by state governors.
“If the Federal Government decides to create state police, I think that they should ensure that there are measures to prevent state governors from subjecting it to abuse by using the officers to victimise their political opponents and non-indigenes. The Federal Government should make sure they address the issue of what the state governors may likely subject the state police to,” he advised.
Obunadike advised the people to identify with the town association wherever they are both at home and abroad, by being properly registered, especially with the Ojoto Akanasato Union (OAU), which according to him, is recognised by the Anambra State government.
He appealed to the people to support his administration to serve the town well, assuring that he would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all benefits from the state government that should come to the town is not missed.
On community development, the Ojoto PG called on the people to make personal efforts towards contributing to development projects in any little way they can to complement government efforts in areas like road construction, electricity (like installation of street lights), human empowerment and other critical areas of need in the town. He charged those who are blessed with wealth to invest in legacy projects that will create positive impacts in the town and immortalize their names long after they have transitioned into eternity.
He said his aim of visiting the Ojoto people in Lagos was to intimate them about his plans to move the town forward.
He further urged the women wing to strengthen their union and also support their husbands in making significant contributions to the development of Ojoto.
Speaking during the meeting held at the OAU hall in Ago Palace Way, Lagos, Chairman of Ojoto Akanasato Union in Lagos, Stephen Chigozie Ibe, welcomed the PG in their midst.
Mr Ibe expressed his conviction that PG Obunadike will do well in development of the town.
Ibe, who is also the president of The Patriots Anti-Corruption Initiative (T-PACI) at the Apapa Port in Lagos, urge the PG to sustain the pace with which he started leading, assuring that they would support him to actualise his goals for the development of Ojoto.
