Sudanese paramilitary, Rapid Support Forces (RSF), attacked the village of Wad Alnoura in Gezira State on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 100 people, according to local activists.
This incident, is the latest, in a series of RSF assaults on small villages in the farming state since the group seized control of the capital, Wad Madani, in December.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe pro-democracy, Wad Madani Resistance Committee, reported on social media that Wad Alnoura experienced a “genocide” on Wednesday. The village was attacked twice by the RSF, with casualties potentially reaching into the hundreds. The committee also noted that the Sudanese army ignored calls for assistance.
“The people of Wad Alnoura called on the army to rescue them, but they shamefully did not respond,” the committee said.
The RSF began clashing with the Sudanese army in April 2023, following disagreements over the integration of the two forces. Since then, the RSF has captured the capital, Khartoum, and most of western Sudan and is now advancing into central regions. United Nations agencies have warned that Sudan is at the “imminent risk of famine.”

In a statement on Wednesday, the RSF confirmed attacks on army and allied militia bases around Wad Alnoura but did not acknowledge any civilian casualties. “We targeted military sites and neutralised threats,” an RSF spokesperson stated. “Our operations aim to restore peace and stability.”
The Wad Madani Resistance Committee, however, accused the RSF of using heavy artillery against civilians, looting, and forcing women and children to flee to the nearby town of Managil. The committee shared photos depicting dozens of bodies wrapped in preparation for burial, surrounded by large crowds of men.
“The RSF attacked us with no regard for human life,” said a local resident who fled to Managil. “They looted our homes and forced us to leave.”
The army-aligned Transitional Sovereign Council condemned the attack, labelling it as a “criminal act” reflecting the systematic targeting of civilians by the RSF. “This attack is a gross violation of human rights,” a council spokesperson said. “The international community must take urgent action to stop these atrocities.”
United Nations officials have expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Sudan. “The situation is dire and worsening by the day,” a UN representative stated. “We call on all parties to cease hostilities and prioritise the safety of civilians.”
The RSF’s advance into central Sudan has displaced thousands of people, adding to the humanitarian crisis in the region. Aid organisations are struggling to provide food, water, and medical supplies to those affected by the conflict.
As the situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate, the international community is urged to intervene and support efforts to restore peace and stability. The people of Wad Alnoura and other affected villages await relief and justice amid ongoing violence and uncertainty.
