Nigerian Senate has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Chief of Army Staff to take urgent steps toward providing adequate security in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The directive followed a motion moved by Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Okey Ezea, seeking urgent government intervention to stop incessant killing of innocent people in communities across Uzo-Uwani LGA.

The upper chamber, presided over Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, on Wednesday, adopted Senator Ezea’s motion and directed the IGP, Chief of Army Staff and the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate, arrest and prosecute criminals terrorising residents of Uzo-Uwani local government area in Enugu State.
Part of the motion was also for the Nigeria Police Force and the Army to urgently establish police and military presence in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area to stop the incessant attacks and killings.

He also called on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials to the victims of the Uzo-Uwani killings to mitigate the effects of these unwarranted attacks on the people in area.
Senator Ezea in his speech, mentioned that in April 2016, a similar attack happened in Nimbo when about 46 people were killed and 14 injured. Despite this painful and tragic occurrence, the authorities did nothing about it, he lamented.
While concluding his speech, Ezea, urged the people of Uzo-Uwani to remain strong as efforts are being made to stop the attacks.
