Out-of-favour France international, Kylian Mbappe, fired Paris Saint-Germain into the Champions League quarter-finals with a brilliant brace in a 2-1 win at Real Sociedad Tuesday night at San Sebastian as the billionaires cruised through 4-1 on aggregate.

Coach Luis Enrique has handed Mbappe limited minutes on the pitch in recent games since his revelation that he would be leaving the Parisiens for a new club this summer widely reported in the media to be Real Madrid.

Mbappe converted both strikes in the 15th and 56th minutes of the game, the first strike, a thing of beauty as his fleece shot tore a part of the net and had to be tied back.

The home side had the ball in the back of the net but the VAR check ruled that out and only got a measure of consolation in added time as captain Fran Merino had his low shot certified legitimate by the VAR.

The Basque team had their fans singing their praises from the stands and despite no further participation at the UEFA Champions League at San Mames, the general consensus seems to be that the better team had progressed to the ‘last 8’ of the competition.
