AFCON 2023: Tinubu Fetes Super Eagles With National Award

The Nigerian president gifts the football stars plots of land, flats in FCT

President Bola Tinubu has rewarded the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a national award -Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) for their performances during the just concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.

The president also announced that the players were giving gifts like flats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and pieces of land.

The Super Eagles came second in the competition that ended on Sunday night with the host country Cote D’Ivoire emerging champions.

The Super Eagles players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were hosted at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

According to a statement signed by President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu praised the team, the coach, the crew, and the entire management team for their hard work, diligence, and sacrifice to get this far in the tournament. He acknowledged the obstacles they continuously overcame with steadily improving performance as they advanced to the finals.

Resplendent in their green apparel, the team members and officials were led by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.

Speaking on the fact that the Super Eagles could not lift the trophy after their solid performance in the tournament, President Tinubu said: “Let this passing event not dispirit us but bring us together to work harder. We are a great nation bound as one by the green-white-green banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and untiring love.”

The Nigerian leaders encouraged youths who are desirous of becoming heroes through football and making the nation proud, not to relent, assuring that his administration is ready to make their dreams come true.
