President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of programmes administered under the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) has sparked reactions from Nigerians on social media commonly called netizens.
A statement released on Friday signed by Segun Imohiosen Director of Information, office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the president has halted N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), and Home Grown School Feeding Programme, administered by NSIPA for six weeks.
The suspension was prompted by ongoing investigations into alleged mismanagement of funds in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under which NSIPA is domiciled.
President Tinubu on Monday suspended the Minister, Betta Edu, over alleged misappropriation of N585 million and she was subsequently summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.
According to the statement the President expressed concerns about “operational lapses and improprieties surrounding payments to the Programs’ beneficiaries.”
He therefore constituted a ministerial panel to review NSIPA operations and recommend necessary reforms for the agency’s operations.
It said that all related activities, from distributions to collaborations, are temporarily on hold, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to ensuring the agency’s programmes benefit the most vulnerable Nigerians.
Citizens took to X formerly Twitter to express their feelings about the development.
