Initial prognosis revealed that the Bayer Leverkusen star would probably not sufficiently recover in time for the tournament and had baded his teammates bye.

In a message on his X (Twitter) handle, the Nigerian sensation wrote: “Good luck guys….

The team are already without influential midfielder Wilfred Ndidi who was replaced by Alhasan Yusuf while Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi had been injured even before the list of provisional squad was made known.
The Bayer Leverkusen star has been replaced by Lorient striker Terem Moffi who is on the provisional list as a result of the setback.
