Victor EzejaIt is yet another season when Christians, especially worshippers at the Deeper Christian Life Church gather for a spirit-filled annual national retreat.
The programme convened by the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, started on Thursday, December 21 and will run till Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre (DLICC) KM 42, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the Deeper Life Bible Church Lagos Moderator, Pastor P. O. Oluwi, the retreat with the theme: ‘Emmanuel’ (God with us) is running concurrently with the Global Crusade With Kumuyi (GCK).

The programme helps to strengthen the faith of believers, especially at this moment when the country and indeed the world generally, is experiencing very challenging times and is in dire need of divine presence and intervention.
GCK, a monthly gospel crusade that is streamed via satellite and social media platforms from an alpha location to the rest of the world for the past three years, has provided a great opportunity for the salvation, healing, and deliverance of thousands of people around the world.
This year’s GCK programme will make it the third time the global crusade has been hosted in Lagos since its debut in Abuja in 2021, as it has been held in virtually all the subregions of Nigeria as well as other countries such as Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, and India (just last month).
Pastor Oluwi explained that the GCK is a collaborative effort involving the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and all its blocs. The programme, according to him, usually features three events – the Crusade, Ministers and Professionals Conference as well as Impact Academy (for youths).
He informed that due to the level of activities this year in which gospel ministers are involved, the current programme will go without the Ministers Conference. However, according to him, the Youth Impact is still embedded in the programme and will feature on the morning of 26th December, the final day of the crusade.
Pastor Oluwi also hinted that the retreat activities will run from morning till late afternoon before the commencement of the daily crusade. He said that the alpha location (DLICC), unlike other locations, will enjoy the extra benefit of full retreat activities on Friday the 22nd and Tuesday the 26th.
Pastor Kumuyi is billed to minister throughout the six-day power-packed global gospel crusade along with the gospel music minister, Cole Hastie and other anointed servants of God.
At a press briefing during the opening ceremony of the GCK, Kumuyi spoke on an array of issues about Christian faith and morality.
He waded into the ongoing debate about same-sex marriage, pointing out that it contradicts Jesus Christ’s admonition to Christians that marriage is between man and woman not the other way.
The Deeper Life General Superintendent urged Christians to follow Christ’s injunctions.
He said: “The Lord Jesus Christ told us before he left that we should go to the world and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, and teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. He even says heaven and earth shall pass away, but his words will not pass away.
“We stand in obedience to Christ and submissiveness to him, and we carry on the works of Christ that said a man and a woman should be joined together in marriage until death do us part.”
Speaking on people’s conduct during Yuletide, Kumuyi said there are things people do that do not give glory to God and stressed that it was a season to reflect on the impact of Jesus Christ’s coming and sacrifice for the whole world.
“There are some things that people do during this time that do not honor Christ Jesus and do not help their health, like smoking, drinking substances, and doing other things that impact their health negatively.”
