Amidst ongoing verification processes within Federal Government ministries, departments, and agencies, more than 2,000 civil servants find their salaries withheld due to discrepancies in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Expressing concern over the issue, a senior civil servant from the Federal Ministry of Defence, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed the widespread nature of the salary withholding. “The majority of workers in the ministry have not received their salaries,” he stated.

Attributing the delay to the recent verification conducted by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, another senior civil servant explained, “About 2,000 civil servants are involved and it’s due to failed verification on the IPPIS.”

In response to inquiries, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, clarified, “Salaries started dropping last week, but it’s not affecting all civil servants.”

National President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, Tommy Etim, raised concerns over the situation, indicating that around 5,000 civil servants risked losing their salaries for November and December 2023 due to IPPIS verification discrepancies.

Etim emphasized ongoing efforts by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to resolve these issues swiftly, stating, “Efforts are being made to ensure those cleared will receive their December salaries and arrears from September.”

However, he urged the government to expedite actions to prevent further delays. “We appeal to the Federal Government to ensure that the salary for December is not delayed,” Etim stated.

The situation remains dynamic, with ongoing efforts to rectify discrepancies and expedite salary payments for affected civil servants, as highlighted by the Association of Senior Civil Servants.
