Funso Doherty, a  figure in Lagos politics and a chartered accountant, has stirred controversy with revelations regarding the allocation of funds in the Lagos State Government’s 2023 budget.

Doherty’s scrutiny extended to major infrastructure allocations as well. He questioned the allocation of N69.9 billion for the repair of the Eti Osa/Lekki Expressway, emphasizing that this amount nearly equaled half of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s entire budget for 2023.

Expressing deep concern over what he deemed as excessive spending and incomplete projects, Doherty highlighted the delayed completion of the LRMT’s Phase 1 and the subsequent allocation of N218 billion for Phase 2, questioning the measures in place to prevent recurring issues with project execution and financial prudence.

The letter, which cited specifics from the state government’s public procurement register, not only raised eyebrows but also underscored Doherty’s call for transparency, accountability, and a thorough evaluation of budgetary allocations.

His critique aimed to push for responsible fiscal management and ethical use of public funds.

This isn’t the first time Doherty has spoken out against government spending, indicating a consistent stance on the need for greater oversight and transparency in the utilization of taxpayers’ money.

As Lagosians digest these revelations, all eyes are on the Lagos State Government for a response that addresses these concerns, resonating with the populace’s expectations for fiscal responsibility and transparent governance.
