Emmanuel OchayiThe Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Federal Government’s digital agenda. This came from the Postmaster General of NIPOST, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, as he marked the 2023 World Post Day in Abuja.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Adepoju emphasized the importance of World Post Day, which commemorates the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) 149 years ago. He revealed that NIPOST would stand alongside 192 other nations under the United Nations Postal body, UPU, to celebrate World Post Day on October 9, 2023.

He emphasized that the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing NIPOST through technology would ensure its continued national significance and global competitiveness.

The Postmaster also underscored the crucial role that the postal service plays in keeping the country connected, especially during unprecedented times, and its efforts to build a secure future. He highlighted that over 5 million postal employees worldwide are entrusted with a wide range of essential items, from messages and gifts to money and medicines.
Furthermore, Mr. Adepoju expressed the importance of educating government officials and the public about the invaluable contributions of the postal service to socio-economic development.
Regarding service delivery, he reiterated NIPOST’s commitment to efficiency and its substantial role in fostering Nigeria’s digital economy. To enhance service delivery, NIPOST has recently procured 20 high-tech Operational Mail Vehicles (OPV) and 100 Motorbikes to boost logistics and efficiency in last-mile deliveries nationwide.
Additionally, NIPOST is collaborating with various government agencies, including the National Population Commission (NPC), National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA), and security agencies, to ensure the effective delivery of its mandate.
