Callphone Ltd Launches Airgate Payment Solution For Online Vendors

Following its license as a payment solution service (PSS) by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian Fintech giant, Callphone Ltd has now hit the market with the highly-anticipated Airgate payment gateway designed to cater to the needs of online vendors in the country, and seamlessly accept payments from anyone as fast as can be.

Callphone Ltd, which is the first company in Nigeria to acquire the 3-in-1 categorized license PSS, has now launched a one-of-a-kind payment gateway in Abuja. This happened on the 1st of October, 2023, in furtherance of the company’s resolve to make the processing of payment easier for Nigerian businesses.

Airgate enables physical and online business owners to experience a new level of robust payment gateway with well-documented APIs structured to simplify the integration process. The gateway supports simple one-page projects, complex business websites, social media vendors, and many more.

Speaking at the grand event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Callphone Ltd, Mr. Precious Ekezie, stated that “with Airgate, merchants can now collect payments via diverse options – payment with a link, debit card, phone number, Google Pay, and more”.

He added that the payment gateway allows business owners to track their transaction data and view detailed transaction reports. “It’s designed to be easy to set up and manage – every merchant’s own personal payment processing platform.

“And with our Airvend Virtual Terminals where merchants have offline virtual Terminals with an account tied to their business for easy payment confirmation by attendants and with the account also synched to a PoS terminal for instant print. We enjoy the partnership and patronage of our customers.

“With this, we further extend a hand of collaboration as we continue to drive the CBN’s policy and objectives for a robust and inclusive digital economy,” Ekezie added.

Many industry experts and dignitaries from around the country and beyond attended the epoch-making event. Notable amongst them were the Chairman of the Board, Nze Chidi Duru, Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri G. Balasubramanian, a director and two-time Federal Minister in Nigeria, Frank Nweke Jr, who was once the Director General of Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG).

The industry regulator – CBN was represented at the launch also graced by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, who in a congratulatory speech, lauded the Callphone team for such a remarkable feat.

She highlighted her ministry’s objective to form a synergy with such an innovation to further drive the CBN’s financial inclusion, adding that the federal government is out to create jobs that will impact positively rural communities through Agency banking and FinTech innovations.

The Chairman of the Board Nze Chidi Duru, thanked the Minister for her remarks and reiterated the robustness and reliability of the company’s FinTech products to continually partner with reputable organizations and institutions to add great value to the Nigerian economy.

There was also the National Organizing Secretary of APC and Former Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Hon. Suleiman Muhammad Argungu. Also at the event was Mr Mike Ojiakor who is also a director in the company.

In 2021, Callphone Ltd acquired CBN’s PSS license, which authorizes the company to operate as a Payment Terminal Service Provider (PTSP), Super-Agent, and Payment Solution Service Provider (PSSP). This CBN mega license, earned by trust and confidence, has empowered the company to roll out the following payment solutions;
● Airvend, for mobile bill payment.
● Airpay, for merchant and super agency banking.
● Airvend *174# USSD, for zero internet banking.
● Airvend Virtual Terminals
● And now Airgate, for processing payments for business owners.
