In the fourth quarter of 2024, Nigeria’s import market saw notable changes. According to the latest Foreign Trade in Goods report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s total imports in Q4 were valued at ₦16.59 billion, marking an 83.24% increase from the same period in 2023. This rise reflects the growing demand for critical imports in sectors vital for Nigeria’s industrial growth and consumer needs.

China: 27.80% 

China remains Nigeria’s largest trading partner, accounting for a significant 27.80% of total imports in Q4, 2024. The strong trade ties between the two countries are largely attributed to China’s supply of machinery, electronics, textiles, and industrial equipment. These imports play a crucial role in supporting Nigeria’s manufacturing and infrastructure development. The substantial percentage of goods imported from China highlights the ongoing reliance on Chinese-made products for Nigeria’s growing industrial needs.

India: 11.43% 

India is the second-largest source of Nigeria’s imports, contributing 11.43% of total imports in Q4, 2024. As a global leader in pharmaceutical production, India plays an important role in providing essential medicines, which are in high demand in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

The United States: 6.36%

The United States is another key player in Nigeria’s import market, contributing 6.36% of total imports in Q4, 2024. The U.S. exports a wide range of goods to Nigeria, including machinery, agricultural products, and refined petroleum. These imports are vital for various sectors of Nigeria’s economy, particularly in agriculture and energy.

Machinery from the United States plays an important role in Nigeria’s infrastructure projects, while agricultural products help meet the country’s food demand.
