Valentine Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, has expressed his unflinching support for the Obi-dient Movement that is spearheading the campaign for the election of Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Datti.
Ozigbo who recently announced his decision to quit PDP and join Labour Party and support Peter Obi in his quest to be elected as president of Nigeria in 2023, was formally received into the party at a brief event on Tuesday morning in Lagos. He stated that his decision was based on his conviction that Obi has the capacity to deliver good governance when elected in 2023 and save Nigeria from the current economic, political and security crisis.
He stated that he has long had a strong desire for a better Nigeria as he is not comfortable with the status quo and therefore found faith in the Labour Party in fulfilling that mission given the quality of the candidate, Obi.
Ozigbo while applauding Obi for his positive antecedents in governance and the wide support he has garnered so far, said he could not afford to be elsewhere without supporting him, given their personal relationship over the years.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that given the level of relationship I have shared with his Excellency Peter Obi over the years, there is no way I could be somewhere else when his name (Peter Obi) is on the ballot other than being with him to pursue the agenda for a better Nigeria. So, I am proud to say that I am 100 per cent Obi-dient; I am Obi-dient to the core, I am proud to be a member of the Labour Party.”
He observed that there has never been a time when the Nigerian youths came together to boldly choose a leader who would lead the country for the next four years. He added that such development has shown the level of decay in the system, hence the need to reform it by electing a good leader to who would champion the cause.
Ozigbo remarked that when the names of heroes of the nation’s democracy are mentioned, that of Obi would be there for he would certainly go down in history as one who ushered a new dawn of leadership and progress in Nigeria if he is eventually elected as president.
He disclosed that he is not joining the party alone but has come with all his supporters and members of his political movement. he announced the presence of the top leaders of his political movement in the person of Chief Tony Ofgiah (Akajiugo) from Aguata in Anambra State. Chief Offiah was the director of support groups for Atiku/Obi presidential campaign in Anambra State and in the 2019 election.
Speaking further on his commitment to the goal of ensuring victory in the upcoming election, Ozigbo promised to work together with his supporters with the aim of not only winning Anambra State but entire Nigeria for the party.
On his part, the Labour Party national chairman, Comrade Julius Abure, welcomed Ozigbo to the party, stating that they don’t accept people anyhow but only those with the right mindset in line with the labour movement to rescue Nigeria to rescue from poor leadership.
He added that Ozigbo meets the party’s criteria was thus accepted.
“I have the honour and privilege to welcome one of our illustrious sons to the Labour Party. It is pertinent to state very clearly today for us in Labour Party, it is not every dick and harry that we receive in the party. We take our time to select those that we admit to be part of us.
Comrade Abure noted that Peter Obi’s presidency quest is driven by attributes of integrity, competence, credibility and capacity to deliver and because of that, the party leadership only allows people with such quality in their various endeavours of life to join. “We don’t just accept any person joining the Labour Party. He said a similar thing took place during their selection of candidates for governorship, national and state assembly elections.
The Party’s national chairman said Obi is a symbol of the party to liberate the country, currently reeling under the burden of the poor economy, and that Ozigbo has just joined the struggle towards achieving that.
“I am here to proudly say that his Excellency Mr. Valentine Ozigbo has all those criteria. Ozigbo meets our criteria to be a member of the Labour Party. I proudly welcome him as a member of the party,” Abure stated.
He assured Ozigbo of the party’s leadership support to collectively build a stronger force and liberate the country. He equally noted that all members of the party have equal rights and privileges regardless of how long one has been in the party as the goal this time is to collectively fight to rescue the country.
