Ever since the Cameroonian-American Afro-beat artist, Libianca Kenzonkinboum Fonji, also known as Libianca, earned her first BET Award. There has been a debate as to why Asake lost to her.

Labianca was a finalist for the BET Viewers’ Choice Best International Act award alongside Pabi Cooper, Asake, Camidoh, Flo, MC Ryan, Raye, and Werenoi in the just-held 2023 BET Awards on Sunday night.

However, there have been reactions among fans and professionals to Libianca winning the award. And Nigerian social media have been in debate after she outperformed Asake at the BET Awards.

Some people have responded to the news by pointing out that Asake’s lost the prize to Libianca likely because he sings primarily in his native tongue of Yoruba.

Meanwhile, Burnaboy took home the prize for Best International Act for the fourth time having worn it in 2019, 2020, and 2021. This will be his fourth winning. No other Nigerian artist got an award this year.
